While scrolling through Instagram recently a photo popped up from Designer Brands advertising that their Luminous Hydrating Foundation was a more affordable dupe of the ever popular (and personal favorite my mine) Nars, Sheer Glow foundation. As I already had both these foundations sitting in my drawer I thought I would put their claims to the test. Today I will be wearing each foundation on either side of my face and we can compare the finish, the application, how it wears throughout the day.
Upon applying I noticed that the Sheer Glow was a lot thinner in consistency and seemed to emphasize my pores more. For the record, I did apply a primer to both sides of my face, however, it was a hydrating formula that doesn’t fill in pores/fine lines etc. I also noticed that the Luminous Hydrating Foundation offered slightly more coverage. Both foundations blended out well with both a beauty sponge and brush and left the same dewy finish. I don’t usually powder my face and I noticed that the Luminous Hydrating Foundation almost set while the Sheer Glow tended to look a little wet or freshly applied all day and I left me with a lot more creasing throughout the day too.
Each bottle contains 30mls of the product but I do feel like you get more product per pump of the Luminous Hydrating Foundation. I am shade Deauville in the Sheer Glow and Classic Ivory in the Luminous Hydrating Foundation.
Throughout the day both wore exactly the same, I managed to keep them on for about 10 hours but I would have to say that the Luminous Hydrating Foundation held up a tiny bit better and still had more of a dewy look whereas the Sheer Glow looked slightly oily. I truly believe, however, that they are an exact dupe. They do look very different swatched but I once on the skin it’s, almost impossible to detect a difference. If you love the Sheer Glow or have wanted to try it but the price tag is too high for you, it is definitely worth looking at the Luminous Hydrating Foundation.
