Is the KKW Beauty Créme Contour & Highlight Kit Worth It?

If you couldn’t tell from my last post, I was pretty excited for the KKW Beauty Crème Contour & Highlight Kit launch. Any product for the skin whether it be skincare or makeup really gets my engine going. On the daily, I usually leave it pretty natural on the eyes however I will always contour and highlight. After seeing the sneak peeks Kim gave on social media I knew I had to have this kit.

What do you get in the KKW Beauty Créme Contour & Highlight Kit?

The kit contains doubled contour and highlight sticks, essentially 4 cream products along with the double ended blending tool. The contour stick has both a bronzer and contour shade and the highlight stick comes with a matte and shimmer side. I love the gorgeous nude colour packaging and I think it was really smart of her included a blending tool as well. It kind of makes the price tag a little more acceptable. The crayon like packaging makes it very easy for precise application. I did feel though, I needed to be very gentle when applying as the stick felt very flimsy in the packaging and if it was wound up too much I feel like it would actually snap off.

How to use the KKW Beauty Créme Contour & Highlight Kit.

Upon applying the product I noticed the consistency to be very waxy and it felt heavy on the skin. It was easy to blend with my a brush and sponge but I felt I got the best colour pay off wth my fingers. As you can see in the demo I use these just I would any other contouring products. I place the contour shades along my forehead, under the cheekbones, nose and jawline, I then use the matte highlight shade to clean up the cheek contour and a little on the forehead finishing off with the shimmer shade on the tops of my cheek bones. Unfortunately, when I purchased the kit the light shade was the only shade left, I actually wanted to get the medium kit and looking black now I think this one would have suited my colouring better. I really had to build up the contour to get my desired shade with this light kit. I also used these sticks to contour my eyes too. I found that they blended well with both my fingers and a brush. I think the matte highlight shade works well as a base and the pigmentation was enough to cancel out the discolouration on my lids.

Final thoughts.

If I can be honest I am a little disappointed with this kit. I mainly think this is because of the colour I got. I would like to try out the medium shade but I can’t see myself paying the price tag and also getting up at 2am to order online again. I personally don’t believe that anyone with an oily/combination skin type will enjoy this formula as even I struggled to get it to stay in place and within 2 hours I was a creasy mess. This could have been because I needed to build the product up so much though. I am not completely ruling out the KKW Beauty brand yet, this was Kim’s first launch. Hopefully, she will listen to customer feedback and make some changes. I look forward to seeing what other products she has in the works and will probably give the brand a second chance in the future.

I feel like nearly $90 is pretty steep

  • Chantalle

I am a huge fan of Kim and was so excited when this was launched, however for the price I just couldn’t justify it! I am also really glad I skipped this as I have such oily skin, it sounds like it would have ended up a disaster! I am excited to see what else she brings out though! x

    Chantalle | http://www.ceceandgrace.blogspot.com.au

    • Hey Chantelle,
Thanks so much for stopping by! Yeah I really wouldn’t recommend this formula for you. I’ve heard concealers are next so hopefully they are better.

  • So glad I waited for reviews like yours! I don’t think it’d be suited to my skin type. I love Kim though and I’ll follow the brand and see what else she comes up with x

    Sarah | More Than Adored

    • Hey Sarah,
Concealers are next… no doubt I’ll be setting my alarm for that lunch too lol!

      • OMG! I cannot wait to hear your thoughts on concealers!!!

  • Thanks for your honest feedback! I was curious about this range and loved that there were so many shades on offer.

    • Hey Rach,
Oh yes I agree. I loved that she’s catered for everyone. I’m really looking forward to seeing the concealers.

  • The shade range I’ve seen looks nice and well thought out but I just can’t get past the price for so little product. I think I’ll stick to my Kevyn Aucoin Sculpting Powder that will last me forever! Excellent review 🙂

    Emma | Rosy Disposition

    • Hey Emma,
Yes I would have to agree. I have some more high end product which were a lot cheaper. I just think she needs to make some tweaks to the formula more than anything.

  • Dianne Childs

I don’t think this would stay put on my skin either, plus I don’t really like using cream products, but great honest review!

    Di from Max The Unicorn

    • Hi Di,

Are you an oily skin type? I love using creams but the formula really has the be perfect or it just ends up a mess lol.

  • Laura Tough

So interesting to hear your thoughts. I have heard a lot of mixed reviews on these. I would expect better quality for the price you paid :/

    Laura || http://www.thelifeoflaura.com.au xx

    • Hey Laura,

I agree. It price tag was pretty hefty, I expected the formula to be a lot better but again this was her first launch lets hope she listens to the feedback and makes some changes.

  • Thank you so much for sharing your review! I have been so curious about these and while I am still tempted I might hold off for now to see if they do listen to customer feedback x

    • Hey Marisa,

Thanks for reading. If you are after something similar I absolutely love the Smashbox Step By Step contouring sticks, They are everything I wanted this kit to be!

  • Thanks for your honest review! It’s such a shame when products don’t meet our expectations. 🙁

    • Hey Rochelle,

Thanks so much for reading. Yeah it was shame I was so excited for this launch too 🙁

  • HerQuarters

This probably wont work for my combination skin type. Im curous to see what she comes up with next..

    Amy | http://www.herquarters.com

    • I’ve heard concealers are next. I will probably set the alarm for that launch too lol. I really want to love this brand. I feel like she’s catering more for my age group lol

  • Kate Flint

Thanks for an honest review Bec! I’ve got a similar skin type and I was a bit on the fence with this one.

    Kate | themintedblog.com

    • Hey Kate,
I’ve never really been a Kylie Cosmetics fan so I had such high hopes for Kim’s line. I’m not ruling it out completely, but there are certainly some changes she needs to make to to the formula.

  • Steph

Thanks for the honest review. I kept hearing positives about this but I was skeptical as cream products in general don’t tend to last on my oilier skin. Clearly that would be the case here too!

    • Hey Steph,
Thanks so much for stopping by. Yeah I would advise to stay away from this one if you have oily skin. I just don’t think you will find it very comfy to wear.

  • Zerin Hassan

Love the video you look gorg x

  • I have not heard about this brand, the applicator looks so good but shame that it does not meet the expectations.

  • I had a very similar opinion to you on this one – product could be a lot better and probably will be down the track. I think I’ll stick to my Smashbox contour stick for now!

  • Lay

I really appreciate your honesty and the demo! So helpful…I was debating if it was worth and I’m going to hold off for now. Maybe she make some improvements for her next launch
