After hearing whispers for months everyone’s cult favourite concealer, Shape Tape now has a BFF! The Shape Tape Foundation has hit the market and was set to be the biggest launch of the year… well in my books anyway. But after hearing the issues of an inconsistent shade range and formula concerns my excitement soon deflated. Tarte released 2 formulas- matte & hydrating. I purchased the hydrating formula. So how did it stack up for me? Keep on reading.
What Tarte Say about their Shape Tape Foundation.
A hypoallergenic, luminous-finish gel foundation featuring the same iconic, buildable full coverage as shape tape concealer with an added boost of skin-smoothing, oil-free hydration. It provides the same rich, creamy full coverage as shape tape concealer in a skin-smoothing, weightless gel. The collagen & hyaluronic acid-packed formula continuously hydrates while helping to plump skin & refine pores, without creasing, caking or fading for 12 hours.
How is Shape Tape Foundation packaged?
The bottle mimics the concealers version but in glass and also has the same doe foot applicator. I absolutely love this as its less mess and fuss. It’s a compact bottle that fits perfectly in the palm of my hand and definitely wouldn’t take up much room in a travel bag or bathroom drawer.
How does the Shape Tape Foundation apply?
Tarte released 2 blending tools to match the foundations. A beauty sponge for the hydrating version and a paddle brush for the matte. As I own enough blending sponges I decided to get the brush. The bristles of the brush are soft and blended the foundation in well. It gave a far better coverage than with a sponge- Yes despite not purchasing the Tarte sponge I did attempt the blend in this foundation with a Beauty Blender.
If you have been following my progress on Instagram stories you will know that I worked hard to get the foundation to work for me. I have been a long time fan of the Shape Tape Concealer and had no doubt that I would love the foundation just as much. I tried every primer/power/setting spray combo and application technique I knew off and didn’t want to go down fighting- I really wanted to love this product. Unfortunately for me, I didn’t. The foundation gave a medium coverage at best and appeared slightly dewy when first applied which I loved but if I did try to build it up it would begin to look cakey and almost matte looking. I found it to not work in conjunction with the Shape Tape Concealer and creased terribly. I have fairly good skin but on days when I did have a blemish it failed to keep it covered. The formula felt very heavy and sticky in the heat too. Like I mentioned I really wanted to love this product but unfortunately, it fell short and I have been left feeling disappointed.
