What Is Laser Skin Resurfacing? Nano Fractional RF Review.

Sun damage, pregnancy, diet, sleep deprivation- these are just a few of the many factors that contributed to the awful feelings I had towards my skin. Despite in recently years doing all I could to keep it looking its best the puffy eyes, dark circles, fine lines and uneven skin tone to me, were something that had to go or at best be treated to look better. I love makeup, But I didn’t want to be hiding behind layers of it for my big day. At the beginning of the year, I gave myself 6 months to have my face looking the best. I knew that these concerns needed to be met with something stronger than a monthly facial. After a consultation at Traralgon Laser Clinic, we come up with 2 different treatments that I would have over the course of 6 months to get my skin looking clear and feeling firm. So what did I have done? The first was 3 sessions of a Nano-Fractional FirmFX Skin Rejuvenation treatment around my eyes followed by an Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) treatment for my pigmentation and freckles. I have been so happy with the results and knew I had to share it with you all because I am sure there would be lots of other people feeling the same about their skin.

What Is Laser Skin Resurfacing?

The clinic used the Venus Viva system. The Venus Viva uses NanoFractional Radio Frequency technology to deliver energy deep into the skin to generate heat allowing the skin to become tighter, lifted and induce collagen production. Essentially their machine makes tiny holes in the skin, collagen production runs to the area and heal it. (sounds a lot scarier than it actually is) This can help with all kinds of skin concerns including wrinkles, sagging skin, enlarged pores, acne scarring and even stretch marks. It is a non-invasive treatment that has a little downtime, around a week in my case. During the healing time, my skin looked puffy, red, and has lots of small dots where the needling had been done. It didn’t make my skin look textured to the eye but did feel a little grainy to touch, kind of like sand. I just made sure I didn’t wear much makeup during this time.

Is Laser Skin Resurfacing painful?

A numbing cream was applied about 20-30 minutes before the treatment was done. I found that this did help, with the exception of a few sensitive areas around the inner and outer corners of my eyes. I had the areas around my eyes, brows and my nose treated. I found that my first treatment wasn’t painful at all but during the other 2 treatments the machine was turned up a little higher I did find them to be a bit more uncomfortable. The discomfort only lasted a second or 2 however. And if I could explain the feeling it would be like lots of tiny ants stinging me/a light burning sensation. Again, it sounds a lot worse than it was and I have an extremely low pain tolerance.

What were my results from the Nano Fractional RF treatments?

I definitely noticed that the fine lines around the crows feet area were gone and then laugh lines I have always had look a lot softer. The darkness and puffiness has minimised and the skin appears to be a lot tighter. I think that the overall skin tone looks brighter as well. This is a treatment where the best results will not be seen for 6 months. After this time, the results will last around a year and then I will need 1 session to top it back up.

What is IPL (Intense Pulsed Light)?

IPL is a laser treatment that works in removing and treating concerns like sun spots, hyperpigmentation, rosacea, birth marks, melasma, spider veins, broken capillaries etc. The pigment absorbs the light and heats up, resulting in the body shedding or reabsorbing the pigment over several weeks.

Does IPL work?

After going through the nano treatment I was still a little anxious about the pain factor of the laser. The first few areas that were treated were a little uncomfortable, which left my skin feeling hot – kinda like sunburn but we were able to stop and take short breaks and apply some ice as needed. My entire face was done in about 15 minutes, so overall a quick process. After we were finished the treated areas were a lot darker and remained that way over the course of the next week or so. During the time the skin almost scabbed up. Once the skin has healed I couldn’t believe the results. It was so clear! The treatment removed a lot of the dark areas and freckles. Becuase issues like pigmentation stem from deep within the skin I was told that I would possibly need to have another spot treatment of a few stubborn areas. It’s been about 4 months I am only just starting to feel like I need that now.

The treatments definitely aren’t cheap, The Nano $550 for 3 treatments and I paid $250 for the IPL treatment but as you can see well worth it for these results. I found the girls at Gippsland Laser to be fantastic. So friendly and helpful.  If this is something you have been considering I highly recommend going for a consultation. My lord, you’re skin improved so much in terms of discolouration! It looks so bright and clear now! I love the results!! Wish I could afford it now, but I would probably give it a go for my big day in the future too.

  • The results are amazing! While it is pricey, I’d rather invest in my skin than caking on makeup. Do you think you’ll continue doing the treatments?

    • Exactly! I have found since having these treatments I don’t want to wear as much makeup. My skin almost looks better without it. I’ll definitely continue getting the top up Nano every year and I am hoping to get another IPL done very soon.

  • Ive been really curious about this, particularly the pain factor! But those results look like they might be worth it

    • I am the biggest woose when it comes to this kind of stuff and look there were some uncomfortable bits but I would call it painful. And yes, the results far weigh out the pain factor lol!
